World Suicide Prevention Day 2018 (10th September 2018)

For the event of World Suicide Prevention Day 2018, the fellows of the  Department, under the guidance of Dr. K. S. Meena (Associate Professor,  Department of Mental Health Education, NIMHANS), initiated a campaign on  Suicide Prevention, titled ‘Be a Buddy for Suicide Prevention’, in which they communicated in different ways how to be more aware of warning signs of suicidal ideation and behaviours, along with learnings about how to provide support and aid to such individuals. This endeavour is in line with this year’s  theme of ‘Working together to prevent suicide’, announced by the WHO. A  number of events had been planned and organised as part of this campaign, like a workshop on Slam Poetry (as a medium of expression and emotional release;  moderated by Dr. Poornima Bhola, Additional Professor, Department of  Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS), an interactive session about stories of individuals who have survived suicide titled ‘Tales of the Mind’ (moderated by  Dr. Pratima Murthy, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS), a poster designing contest (‘Design-a-Poster’), a slogan writing contest (‘Inscribe’) and a  short films contest (‘Minutes Matter’).
